Best Picture This photo of Washington RFC's #7, Owen Lentz, trying to step out of the grasp of a Kansas City Blues tackler was taken at the featured match of the 2005 Washington Cherry Blossom Tournament on 4/9/2005 between Rugby Super League teams Washington RFC and the Kansas City Blues. Trailing 14-17 at half-time Kansas City opened the second half with the Blues Marno Nel touching down for his second try of the day. The conversion failed, but Kansas City had their first lead of the game 19-17. A frantic scoring battle opened with Washington responding immediately as USA fullback Francois Viljoen slotted a 24 meter penalty kick and Washington went up 20-19. At the 58 minute mark Kansas scored again, but the conversion failed and Washington again rallied to score. Washington's forwards appeared here to gain the edge and in a fevered 10 minute span jumped up to a 40-30 lead. Kansas City again came back again scoring in the corner to trail 35-40, but the final whistle was blown as Washington was able hold the Blues on their final possession. The photo says everything about the game from the determination and desperation both teams played with to the wide open style of rugby the fans enjoyed. It was just a great game.
